How do I access assisted living?

Contact | Access to subsidized assisted living units is through a Home Health assessment. For more information on subsidized units, contact the local Home Health office nearest you. Please do not contact the Operator directly regarding subsidized units. For information on market units, please refer to the Seniors Housing Information Program (SHIP) directory. |
Building amenities | We serve lunch and supper in the dining room daily. Weekly housekeeping and laundering of towels and flat linens are included. |
Language, culture, religious affiliations | Multi-denominational worship services provided every other week. |
Type of accommodation | 40 publicly subsidized units. Each unit includes a stovetop, full size refrigerator and microwave oven. Coin-operated washers and dryers in common laundry rooms. Residents provide their own furnishings. |
Cost | Residents pay 70% of their after-tax income which covers: 1) monthly rental accommodation; 2) hospitality services: two meals and two snacks daily, weekly housekeeping, flat laundry, etc.; 3) personal care; and 4) on-site emergency response system. Residents on income assistance pay a flat rate. Items not included as part of the monthly fee include: telephone, cable, hydro, personal laundry, household and toiletry supplies, medications, personal care products and insurance. |
Special recreation opportunities | Assisted by volunteers, the part-time activity coordinator provides resident-directed program events. |
Accessibility | Residents must be able to move around in their own apartment with or without the use of mobility aids. Electric wheelchairs designed for indoor use may be permitted with pre-approval of the Executive Director. Motorized scooter parking is available in a designated area in the basement. |
Pet policy | Individual resident pets are not allowed, with the exception of guide dogs or the equivalent. |
Smoking policy | There is no smoking in the building except in the outside designated smoking area. |
Safety/security features | The building has a wireless call system with call panels in all common areas. Each resident has a pendant that transmits to a staff paging system with central computer monitoring. The front door is programmed for evening staff to answer after 10:30 p.m. Residents expecting visitors after 10:30 p.m. must alert staff. Front door video surveillance. |
Neighbourhood/community amenities | Health services, a pharmacy, a park and public transportation are nearby. |
Residence-specific restrictions | Offers hospitality and personal assistance services to seniors and adults with disabilities. |
Any other amenities | Underground parking for residents is available at a monthly rate. |
