George Derby Centre is a community based complex care facility for Persons who require complex care and services.
George Derby Centre has a long history dating from the end of World War II as a housing and rehabilitation facility for veterans of the Armed Forces returning from a theatre of war. Since 1948, George Derby Centre has evolved into a long-term care community, licensed under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Adult Care Regulations. The current centre opened in May 1988.
Our vision for the future is to be the centre of excellence for the provision of supportive independent living, complex and dementia care for the general senior population.
We enable our residents to maintain their optimal level of personal health and well-being by providing leisure, medical, nursing, palliative, rehabilitative, spiritual and therapeutic programs and services.
The centre also provides palliative and end-of-life care. The living area is divided into four units. Three of the units are open (unsecured with unlocked doors), and each is home to 81 residents. Our “Special Care Unit” (secured with locked doors) is where residents with behavioral symptoms are cared for.
George Derby Centre has 300 publicly subsidized long-term care beds. There are 284 single occupancy and eight double occupancy rooms.
