Dr. Zameer Hirji, an interventional radiologist, leads the Interventional Radiology Redevelopment and Expansion at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH).
Royal Columbian Hospital has been central to several significant events in Dr. Hirji’s life. As a medical student, he completed many rotations there. His daughter was born at the hospital, and his father received care there after his first heart attack.
“I’ve always wanted to build my career at this unique centre, which provides the highest level of care in the region,” he shares.
These significant life events have profoundly influenced Dr. Hirji’s dedication to RCH. As the lead medical advisor for Interventional Radiology of the redevelopment team, he tirelessly works to enhance care for radiology patients through the hospital’s design.

“I don’t know how he manages it all,” says Dean Shev, a business analyst consultant for the redevelopment project, who nominated Dr. Hirji for the award. “Despite his demanding schedule, Dr. Hirji’s contributions to the project often extend beyond his professional hours. He is always present for his patients and colleagues.”
Dr. Hirji is proud to contribute and praises the team for their dedication to the project.
“As physicians, we do our daily tasks, but taking on projects like this is also important,” he says. “Over the past seven years, our team has dedicated countless hours – this recognition truly belongs to everyone involved.”
Shev believes that Dr. Hirji’s efforts don’t just benefit his department but the entire site, health authority and community.
“Dr. Hirji’s dedication to making interventional procedures more efficient and accessible truly enhances patient outcomes. His ability to connect clinical needs with technical solutions has been vital in integrating advanced imaging technologies into our redevelopment plans, always keeping patient care at the heart of everything we do,” he says.
