Become a volunteer at Chénchenstway Care Home.

We are looking for volunteers to improve the quality of life for our residents. Volunteering provides meaningful social interactions, skill development and companionship; all of which fosters an engaging health care community. Chénchenstway’s inaugural volunteer program launches in January 2025.,

Chénchenstway is a newly established long-term care community that opened in October 2023, offering 216 single bedrooms with individual washrooms for residents to ensure privacy and comfort. The facility includes in-house dining services, accessible outdoor spaces, a salon and a rehabilitation gym. Located in Burnaby, Chénchenstway is the only long-term care home in British Columbia jointly operated by two health authorities, Fraser Health Authority and Providence Health Care.

Requirements

Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:

  • Minimum commitment of 6 months (one weekly shift of 2 to 4 hours)
  • Minimum age of 16 (parent/legal guardian consent is required for under 18)
  • Interest in health care and comfortable volunteering in a senior home setting
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to commute to Burnaby (7550 Rosewood Street)

If you are a successful candidate, you will be asked to provide and complete the following:

  • Criminal record check
  • Two references
  • Mandatory new volunteer orientation curriculum on LearningHub
  • Attendance to Group Site Orientation (usually 2 to 4 hours)

  • Step 2 Interview: Only candidates who qualify for available positions will be contacted for an video interview
  • Step 3 Screening: Criminal record check and references will be required
  • Step 4 Orientation: Attend a volunteer orientation session onsite
  • Step 5 Placement: Training and placement following orientation
