Highlights of our volunteer opportunities
We involve volunteers in many areas across our hospital including, but not limited to:
- Emergency department
- Long-term care
- Mental Health and Substance Use
- Volunteer resource projects
- Acute care for the elderly
- Patient partners
- Therapy dog visiting teams – Please see below under the section partner organizations to see how you would qualify to volunteer here with your canine partner.
- Facility wide volunteers including way finders and The Peace Arch PERK.
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- 18 years plus – applicants must be available to volunteer during regular business hours.
- All health care workers/volunteers are highly encouraged to get a seasonal flu shot at the beginning of the flu season, which typically runs November through to April
- Proficient in English
- Exhibits effective communication skills
- Able to commit to volunteering one-time-per-week for a few hours at a consistent day and time for a minimum of six months
- Your ability to successfully engage with our staff, patients and residents is especially important to us
- We are looking for volunteer candidates that live within reasonable proximity to Peace Arch Hospital
Application process
Thank you for your interest in volunteer roles at Langley Memorial Hospital. Applications are now closed.
- Once you have applied to volunteer you will be sent an automatic reply confirming we have received your application. Other than the automatic reply we will not contact you unless you are selected to interview for available volunteer positions.
- We traditionally receive more applications to volunteer than we have available volunteer positions so if you are concerned do not by shy to email us to inquire about your application.
- If you are selected to volunteer, following an informative interview process, you will be provided comprehensive general orientation and training as well as role specific training. All volunteers will be given the paperwork to complete a criminal records check; do not attempt to complete this on your own prior to being offered a volunteer placement.
- Applications to volunteer are kept on file for 3 months. If we do not contact you during that time, you are welcome to log into myvolunteerpage.com to reactivate your application.
