Volunteering at Peace Arch Hospital
We are happy to let you know we are now recruiting volunteers to support various patient care activities at Peace Arch Hospital. Please consider the following criteria before you apply:
We are looking for individuals who can volunteer during regular business hours once-per-week for two to four hours in the following ways. Please read this webpage thoroughly before applying. We hope we can answer any questions you may have. Feel free to reach out to us if we can provide further information related to volunteering at Peace Arch Hospital:
- Peace Arch PERK - Tuesdays and Thursdays - 9:00 a.m. - noon. We need two people who can fill in for vacancies when our regularly scheduled volunteers are on vacation. Could lead to a regular weekly opportunity. The Peace Arch PERK visits various care units delivering complimentary, hot beverages to patients and their caregivers.
- Cozy cart - Flexible with schedule throughout the week – We need two people who can fill in for vacant volunteer shifts Monday - Friday, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Delivers complimentary hot beverages to patients on the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit, encouraging increased hydration and nutritional supplement intake.
- Way finders – Volunteers needed Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Assists the public with information and way finding throughout the hospital.
- Lab volunteer – Friday, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. – Assist clients using the outpatient lab with information and flow of clients through the lab. Assists with Way Finding as able.

- Therapy dog visiting teams – Please see below under the section partner organizations to see how you would qualify to volunteer here with your canine partner.
- Facility wide volunteers including way finders and The Peace Arch PERK.
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- 18 years plus – applicants must be available to volunteer during regular business hours.
- All health care workers/volunteers are highly encouraged to get a seasonal flu shot at the beginning of the flu season, which typically runs November through to April
- Proficient in English
- Exhibits effective communication skills
- Able to commit to volunteering one-time-per-week for a few hours at a consistent day and time for a minimum of six months
- Your ability to successfully engage with our staff, patients and residents is especially important to us
- We are looking for volunteer candidates that live within reasonable proximity to Peace Arch Hospital

- Once you have applied to volunteer you will be sent an automatic reply confirming we have received your application. Other than the automatic reply we will not contact you unless you are selected to interview for available volunteer positions.
- We traditionally receive more applications to volunteer than we have available volunteer positions so if you are concerned do not by shy to email us to inquire about your application.
- If you are selected to volunteer, following an informative interview process, you will be provided comprehensive general orientation and training as well as role specific training. All volunteers will be given the paperwork to complete a criminal records check; do not attempt to complete this on your own prior to being offered a volunteer placement.
- Applications to volunteer are kept on file for 3 months. If we do not contact you during that time, you are welcome to log into myvolunteerpage.com to reactivate your application.
