Our hospital thrives on efficiency and precision, and having instant access to patient information will transform how we deliver care,” says Sheila Finamore, executive director, Royal Columbian Hospital.

Early on September 7, the hospital buzzed as go-live day for the new electronic health system arrived.

After months of preparation Royal Columbian Hospital is now the fourth Fraser Health hospital to embrace a digital patient record, moving away from paper charting.

Staff and medical staff began entering their first digital patient records and quickly adapted to the new system on September 7, entering orders and accessing patient information with ease. Across departments, the transition was relatively smooth.

“Our hospital thrives on efficiency and precision, and having instant access to patient information will transform how we deliver care,” says Sheila Finamore, executive director, Royal Columbian Hospital. “Our teams are leaning in, learning and adapting to new technology. Staff and medical staff are quickly identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and improve collaboration.”

In the days that have followed, teams continue to adapt to their new skills and workflows, guided by dedicated support specialists and colleagues from sites already live with the new electronic health record (EHR).

“As a leader in trauma, cardiac care, neurosciences and high-risk maternity, Royal Columbian Hospital plays a crucial role in Fraser Health’s journey of digital transformation and leading innovation,” says Jennifer MacGregor, vice president, Digital Patient and Provider Experience. “This go-live is a major milestone in our digital health strategy as we continue to roll out new technology and capabilities to enable our staff and medical staff to continue to deliver high quality care.”

Daily feedback highlights the transition’s benefits, with many affirming its positive impact.

“It’s far and away better than paper charting,” says Dr. Sujan, hospitalist, Royal Columbian Hospital. “It creates more efficiency as time goes on.”

Staff and medical staff remain determined, showing resilience, adaptability and commitment to patient care throughout the transition. Congratulations to everyone involved in this launch.
