The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan sets the framework for Fraser Health in its efforts to provide equitable and safe care for the communities we serve, and respectful and inclusive working environments for staff and medical staff.

The goal of our EDI Strategy is to enhance delivery of equitable and culturally safe health care services. It will allow us to live up to our values of respect, caring and trust and position us to be a leader in social justice and address inequities that disproportionally affect equity-seeking populations. Guided by this EDI Strategy, we will work to understand and address the unique needs and challenges faced by diverse communities and develop targeted interventions and programs to improve health and well-being.

As a complement to our EDI Strategy, five core commitments have been identified that will guide this work. These are:

  • Equal respect, anti-discrimination and health equity for all
  • Respect for Indigenous Peoples
  • Curiosity, compassion and collaboration
  • Health and well-being for all
  • Accountability, growth, and excellence in all we do

Our Vision

Our vision is to create inclusive health care environments that foster trust and respect and actively address systemic barriers and biases while providing equitable health care for diverse community members.

Our 2023-2028 EDI Strategy and Action Plan outlines four main pillars for action:

We will create inclusive and equitable environments where everyone feels valued, heard and respected.
Pillar 2: Enhancing capacity-building
We will enable a supportive learning culture that supports values-based decision-making and welcomes differences.
Pillar 3: Delivering equitable care
We will deliver equitable care that is accessible, culturally safe and responsive to the diverse communities we serve.
Pillar 4: Incorporating equity, diversity, and inclusion in organizational systems
We will incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion principles in policies, programs, and service delivery across organizational structures and systems.
