The South Asian Health Institute’s (SAHI) goal is to empower and engage South Asian communities in our region to achieve better health and wellness while reducing chronic disease burdens in addition to other emerging health issues. To learn more about SAHI, visit www.fraserhealth.ca/sahi.
Volunteer with the South Asian Health Institute (SAHI) to empower and provide culturally relevant health information to the South Asian communities. As a SAHI volunteer, you will complement the work of SAHI. You will work with our team and South Asian communities to support various health promotion and program activities.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Call-backs for interviews are done as program needs arise.
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Minimum commitment: six months or 36 hours
- Ability to communicate effectively in at least one South Asian language – e.g., Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Farsi, etc.
- Ability to engage respectfully with a diverse population
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and set appropriate boundaries
- Ability to work in a team, communicate effectively and have a positive attitude
- Ability to travel across the Fraser Health region for volunteer shifts
- Interest in health and well-being and willingness to learn about different health topics

Application process
- Step one: Application – complete the application form.
- Step two: Interview – only candidates who qualify for available positions will be contacted for an interview.
- Step three: Screening – a criminal record check and two references will be required.
- Step four: Orientation and training – complete the required training material and sessions.
- Step five: Placement – upon completion of all training, volunteers can sign-up for shifts.
