Today, Fraser Health is sharing the following updates on COVID-19 outbreaks in our region:

Outbreaks in long term care and assisted living:

Fraser Health has declared COVID-19 outbreaks over at PICS Assisted Living in Surrey, Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre in Delta, Chartwell Carrington House Retirement Residence in Mission, and Thornebridge Gardens Retirement Residence in New Westminster. With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases at these locations.

Individual staff members at Dr. Al Hogg Pavilion, Laurel Place, and Fair Haven Homes Burnaby Lodge have tested positive for COVID-19. Fraser Health has declared outbreaks at these locations, and a rapid response team is at each site. Communication with residents and families is underway. The three staff members are currently in self-isolation at their homes.

Dr. Al Hogg Pavilion is a long term care facility in White Rock that is owned and operated by Fraser Health. Laurel Place is a long term care facility in Surrey that is owned and operated by Park Place Seniors Living. Fair Haven Homes Burnaby Lodge is a long term care facility in Burnaby that is owned and operated by Fair Haven Homes Society. 

Enhanced control measures have been put in place at each site. Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families. 

Fraser Health has proactively implemented the following at each site:

  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide resident care.
  • Visitors are restricted throughout the facility.
  • Staff and residents movement in the facility has been restricted.
  • Cleaning and infection control measures have been enhanced.
  • Residents, families and staff are being notified.
  • Twice a day screening of all staff and residents. 

During this time, Fraser Health has additional presence at each site to take any further actions required and support the facility. This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.

COVID-19 outbreaks in the community

Fraser Health Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Pace Processing, a food processing facility located at 19495 – 55th Avenue, Surrey, after finding evidence of COVID-19 transmission among staff working at this location. 

To date, 10 employees of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. Fraser Health is screening employees at the facility, and case and contact management is ongoing. Those identified as cases and close contacts have been instructed to self-isolate.

Fraser Health Public Health first became aware of COVID-19 cases at this location on October 8th. Fraser Health has issued a closure order to the facility, and we are working with the operator to strengthen their COVID-19 mitigation strategies.

In addition, Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Coast Spas Manufacturing, located at 6315 – 202 Street, Langley, after finding evidence of COVID-19 transmission among staff working at this location. 

To date, 12 employees of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19. Fraser Health is screening employees at the facility, and case and contact management is ongoing. Those identified as cases and close contacts have been instructed to self-isolate.

Fraser Health Public Health first became aware of COVID-19 cases at this location on October 13th. Fraser Health has issued a closure order to the facility, and we are working with the operator to strengthen their COVID-19 mitigation strategies.

Fraser Health has implemented comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in long term care, assisted living and independent living facilities. In addition, Fraser Health has also deployed more than 480 people including care staff and our rapid-response teams which include clinical nurse educators, infection prevention and control experts, screeners, and patient care quality officers supporting with communication to families and assessing symptoms at sites with outbreaks. Through these teams, sites are also connected with emergency supplies and additional personnel if needed.
