As we get closer to opening the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower at Royal Columbian Hospital in 2025, the new space will also open up opportunities for people wanting to join our team and for current Fraser Health staff and medical staff looking to advance their careers at Royal Columbian.

“This is an exciting time that presents numerous opportunities for health care professionals looking to start or advance their careers in a dynamic and supportive setting,” says Genevieve M. St. Onge, director, clinical operations for the Emergency Department and Cardiac Program.

The new acute care tower will bring several benefits to the working environment of our staff and medical staff as they care for our patients and communities.

Spacious, modern environment

The new acute care tower will almost double the size of the existing hospital, creating a modern, patient-centered facility.

Private patient rooms, separate waiting areas for essential care partners and more consultation rooms will give staff extra room to work and have confidential conversations with patients and families.

“The additional space will help us to enhance the experience for both patients and health care workers, allowing for a modern approach to care delivery,” says St. Onge.

State-of-the-art technology

The building will have state of the art equipment and technology that will elevate our capacity to deliver innovative and exceptional care.

Through the help of the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation and its donors, we will be one of the only sites in Canada with an Interventional Radiology suite with a CT scanner and angiography unit in the same room. These units will function together seamlessly and allow for better and safer patient care.

Communications technology will also be enhanced. Team members will be able to communicate with each other hands-free by voice command. Digital screens will provide anonymous, surgical data showing where patients are located on their care journey. This will not only provide useful data for service providers, but will also help physicians, staff and family members to track patients in real time.

Team collaboration

Throughout the new building, services will be more integrated and streamlined.

Operating rooms and interventional services will be combined on one surgical and interventional ‘superfloor’ that will be one of the largest in Canada. Similarly, all critical care specialty services will be located on one floor, and all neurosurgery services will be combined into one Neurosciences Unit.

Having related services located next to each other will increase collaboration and improve efficiency.

Career opportunities

We are hiring for a variety of roles, including nurses, allied health professionals, clinical support, housekeeping and food services, trades and maintenance workers and more. Many clinical and non-clinical leadership opportunities are available. We are also recruiting more physicians to work in our new facility.
