Public Notice

We are making improvements to East Columbia Street beside the hospital as part of the City of New Westminster’s Great Street vision. Construction has begun near Keary Street and will progress north ending at Sherbooke Street in the Fall. During this time, construction crews will be removing and replacing sidewalks, street signs, light poles and civil infrastructure, and installing new asphalt and bike lanes. These enhancements are necessary for the safety and long-term usability of the area. Construction hours will be Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except statutory holidays).

How will this affect you?

  • East Columbia Street will be open for traffic in both directions as much as possible, but at times there will be single lane alternating traffic. Expect some delays. Access to the hospital will remain open at all times. Flaggers will direct emergency vehicles when needed. Street parking will be closed in active work areas.
  • Sidewalks will be closed in active work areas. Obey flaggers and follow detours.
  • Cyclists should avoid active work areas and detour to designated bike lanes. Obey flaggers and follow detours.

All businesses on East Columbia Street are open and accessible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work on the hospital redevelopment.
