Our health care foundations improve patient care through community support, funding new technologies, services and health programs.

Our nine health care foundations unite communities through fundraising and support, helping to advance technology and services at our hospitals. Their efforts enhance patient care and support wellness initiatives for our dedicated staff and medical staff.

Below, we celebrate the key accomplishments of each foundation that helped drive this impact in 2024.

Technological innovations and new services

Patients at Burnaby Hospital now have access to the Mako Robotic Surgical System, the first in Western Canada for orthopedic care. Thanks to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, this technology provides real-time feedback to ensure precise corrections, enhancing joint alignment and function for better knee balance. Surgeons report fewer post-operative complications and faster recoveries compared to traditional methods, leading to improved patient outcomes.

Meanwhile, more cancer survivors now have access to free areola tattooing at the Eagle Ridge Hospital’s Areola Tattoo Clinic. This service, supported by the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, promotes emotional and physical healing after mastectomy and reconstruction. It offers survivors a sense of closure and renewed confidence.

Langley Community Health and Hospital Foundation (LCHHF) supported smoother transitions for patients returning home, opened a cardiac care wing and purchased new X-ray machines for more accurate and faster testing. Additionally, LCHHF renovated staff lounges to create a more welcoming and supportive work environment.

The new Telemetry Unit at Ridge Meadows Hospital has expanded telemetry capacity from seven to 13 beds, providing more patients with continuous cardiac monitoring. This improvement was made possible through the generosity of Ron and Alma Jones and the support of the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.

Patients at Peace Arch Hospital now benefit from advanced medical technologies, thanks to the community’s support through the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation in raising $10.8 million. It surpassed the goal for the Medical Imaging Campaign, which coincided with the hospital’s 70th birthday celebration.

Finally, our communities will soon have access to life-saving cardiac procedures at Surrey Memorial Hospital, thanks to the $9 million raised by the Surrey Hospitals Foundation for two new cardiac catheterization labs. This achievement establishes Surrey Memorial Hospital as a regional cardiac centre—the second in the Fraser Health region—in what is soon to be B.C.’s largest city.

Capital projects

The Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower, which will open in 2025, will enhance the care of critically ill and injured patients at Royal Columbian Hospital. The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation’s fundraising efforts have contributed to the hospital's redevelopment that will result in doubling its capacity and featuring Canada’s largest surgical “super floor.”

In addition, long-term residents will soon benefit from the new 200-bed Beedie Long-Term Care community, supported by the $18.25 million “Coming Home” campaign. The Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Moonlight Gala raised a record-breaking $1.39 million for this cause, with the community set to open in 2027.

Health care program enhancements

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation's annual gala raised over $200,000. That significantly enhanced critical health programs in the Eastern Fraser Valley and positively impacted patient care.

Last year, the foundations collectively raised over $77 million; these donations play an important role in expanding government health care funding. They support priorities such as medical equipment, education, research, facility improvements and community projects. The generosity of donors has enabled our foundations to achieve incredible milestones, and we are excited to see their impact grow even further in 2025.
