Clinical previews have begun. Progress has been made on all floors. Road work at the west end of Sherbrooke Street continues and is on track to be completed by the end of April.

Over the next several months we will be preparing to get our site and our staff and physicians ready to open the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower (JPACT). Robust planning is now underway. We are working to ensure the building design is aligned with operational plans to ensure we can effectively move into, work and provide care in the new building. We are working closely with the support services teams who will be the first to move in and start working in the new building this summer.

Clinical previews have begun

Clinical previews of selected rooms in the new acute care tower began earlier this month. Participants visited spaces in the new Emergency Department (shown above) with actual and simulated equipment. Previews for the Interventional floor and the Maternal, Infant, Child and Youth spaces are now in progress. The previews provide staff and medical staff the opportunity to move around the space, test how the equipment moves within the room and consider how they will work together in the space when the new tower opens.

Bringing together New Westminster’s past, present and future

On the north facade of the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower, two concrete ‘V’ columns converge to form a distinctive ‘W'. These columns stand not only as structural supports, but they also serve as a proud emblem of New Westminster. Read more.

Design and construction update

Over the past month, EllisDon has made progress on all floors. The project has turned on all major services for the building. This includes power and hydronics. Commissioning of electrical and mechanical equipment is in progress. The building exterior is on track to be complete within the next few weeks.

Road work update

Road work at the west end of Sherbrooke Street continues and is on track to be completed by the end of April. The sidewalk on the hospital lane between Allen Street and Sherbrooke Street will open soon. Learn more.

Phase 3 update

Most user group meetings for the interim early enabling works (IEEW) for the next phase of our redevelopment are now complete. We expect to have a final design for most IEEW spaces – the priority renovations to support the additional beds and services in the new tower – by the end of April 2025. Later this spring, we will be seeking input from users for design development for all Phase 3 programs. We will be working towards finalizing room proportions, locations, door placements, finishes and the construction sequencing for as much of Phase 3 as possible by the end of the year.
