Find out about the role of students and residents in your care.
We are committed to providing high-quality care while training the next generation of health care providers.
Your role in health care education
When you visit our hospitals, clinics or other care sites, students may be part of your health care team. They could be:
- Medical students
- Residents and fellows (doctors who are in advanced stages of their training)
- Nursing students
- Allied health students (such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dieticians)
You might be asked if a student can either observe or be part of your care. All students work under the close supervision of health care professionals. If you agree, we thank you for contributing to the training of future health care professionals. If you do not want a student, it is okay to say no. If you say no, your decision will not affect your care.
We encourage any feedback that might help students to learn and grow. We also appreciate your patience as students might ask more questions or take longer compared to someone who has finished their training.
Your safety, comfort and quality of care remain our top priorities. We make sure that all students follow the highest standards.
